Given the success of the Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings franchises – I’m surprised by Hollywood’s reluctance to produce more magic and urban fantasy themed films. Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files is a great candidate for a big screen production. (more…)

“Can The Zombie Apocalypse Save Detroit?”
Marc Siwak is an entrepreneur trying to raise money to buy or lease abandoned property in Detroit. His plan is to create a zombie apocalypse style theme park. Much of Detroit is filled with depopulated and abandoned neighborhoods due to economic collapse. On the surface, this is a unique way to utilize vacant property and create jobs. However, there is some controversy surrounding this proposal.

It’s All About The Villain
The villain. The fulcrum on which a great fantasy story rests. This statement’s validity is apparent to those who’ve enjoyed the recent film adaptations of famous fantasy stories. Rarely is the protagonist more interesting than the villain. The hero provides us with the perspective in which to view the story. However, it’s a good villain who creates conflict and determines how the hero’s world is shaped.

What’s The Next Big Thing For Fantasy
Fantasy fans return to Middle Earth this winter when Peter Jackson’s, “The Hobbit” hits the big screen. The two-part movie based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s book will tell the story of Bilbo Baggins. Along with Thorin Oakenshield and twelve other dwarfs, Bilbo will attempt to liberate The Lonely Mountains of a fearsome dragon named Smaug. Given these films highly anticipated release, what should be the next big thing for fantasy?

On The Charges of Emotionally Damaging Revisionism – We find Michael Bay Innocent
The hatred of Michael Bay needs to stop. The prolific director’s Transformers trilogy and his upcoming work on the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie have fan boys in an uproar. Their accusations of ruined childhoods are as melodramatic as they’re unsubstantiated. Even if Michael Bay had ruined someone’s childhood – whose childhood did he ruin?

Car Crash
You think I’d be used to it by now. The initial impact of 2,000 pounds worth of steel and polymers colliding violently into the bumper of the car I was driving. It’s still scary. The force of the impact launched me forward as the seatbelt simultaneously restricted further to hold me in place. My head whipped roughly forward and the gray matter of my brain sloshed against sides of my skull while the car settled into place. Everything was foggy as my brain recovered form the lag caused by the collision. And then there was the dawning horror of realization. I’ve been in the third car accident of my life. Elapsed time? Four seconds.
